Real tired       20.07.05 * 18:49

Tonight as I was leaving work tonight I involuntarily entered into a discussion with a Stranger.

Before I recount this I should explain that I had just been in the bathroom, doing bathroom things, and as I washed my hands I specifically remarked to myself: "I look nice today." I considered my countenance to be acceptably lovely, my complexion to be fine, and my hair to be smoothly arranged.

You should also know that this morning, I spilled 1/4 of a cup of hot coffee all over my lap and spent 20 minutes trying to wash it out of my pants and another 30 minutes shivering at my desk while I dried off. The significance of this is that while that did happen, I did not let it ruin or even negatively affect my day.

Anyway, I walked downstairs and was crossing the lobby when a small man signalled to my by stabbing the air with one finger. He said "Boy you look tired. You look real tired. Did they get you today?"

So that you know, he was a middle-aged african american gentleman wearing a starched white shirt with a large red stain on one sleeve. His hair was close-cropped, white, and he wore coke bottle glasses. He was sweating profusely on the forehead.

I said "I'm sorry?" He repeated that I looked "real tired," and had someone perhaps "gotten me" today?

At this time I felt it appropriate to look at him condescendingly and say No in a very authoritative voice.

Following my cold-blooded remark, he asked "Are you sure?"

I now walked away shaking my head, and behind me he continued to stand there, laughing, and muttering "Yeah, real tired out today aren't we missy?"

Afterward I felt somewhat bad when I remembered the stain on his shirt, thinking that unlike me it may haved caused his day to be unfavorable. But I scratched that idea and wrote him up as a lunatic and felt my attitude to have been appropriate when I realized that he hadn't even tried to wash his stain out.

Also, I'm not tired. Coffee, you know.
